Criminal Law Defined
Criminal Law cases can cover a wide variety of matters, from felonies to single infractions. These various criminal offenses have been divided on this page into subsections. Having a lawyer like Steve Lacy to represent you on these offenses will give you security in knowing that someone is working for your best interests. He will challenge the constitutionality of questionable police actions and make sure that you are not being taken advantage of by the court. Feel free to click on and view free tips and familiarize yourself more with these issues, so you can be better prepared in handling your case.

Traffic tickets can affect your automobile insurance, your driver’s license, and the amount of time you spend in court proceedings. An infraction is an offense not considered a crime and usually carries a penalty or a fine. People who receive infractions cannot be jailed or receive a court appointed lawyer. Most traffic infractions can be handled without you ever having to enter a court room or spending your time in a consultation with a lawyer. We offer our clients the convenience of handling their traffic tickets online, and never having to step foot in our office or a court room. We will pull your records (with your consent), and as long as we can verify your signature and receive payment in advance, we will take care of it for you. Our clients can choose to use this online service with our flat fee that includes all fines and court cost. After you hire us, we obtain and examine your driving record. Then, we appear in court on your behalf and seek reduction or amendment to your charges in order to minimize or eliminate any consequences to your driver’s license and insurance rates. After we appear in court on your behalf and dispose of your ticket we will communicate with you by letter or email (your choice) and explain how your traffic ticket was handled, including any potential consequences of the disposition. This makes the process more efficient for our clients, so that you will not have to spend any more of your time handling these matters. You can get back to your family, your work, and your life.

*The only traffic tickets that we can handle in this manner are:

Safe movement violations (G.S. § 20-154)

*All of the above listed infractions are subject to a request for more information if needed, which will have to be provided at least two business days in advance of the court date. In order to pay online the payment must be submitted and approved 10 business days before the court date, and in cases involving accidents or insurance violations you will be contacted and may be asked to provide documentation involving your case. Felonies
A felony conviction can have a major impact on your life, for the rest of your life. It effects employment, family relationships, friendships, and how you are viewed by the public. A felony conviction can prevent you from holding public office, take away your right to vote, and substantially reduce your ability to earn a living. They are often publicized in the newspaper and filed on your permanent criminal record so that any future employer or acquaintance can view them with the click of a mouse. Steve Lacy has over 30 years of experience in handling felony cases that minimizes the impact on his clients. Some of the more common examples of felonies that Steve Lacy handles are:
Murder
Rape and other sex crimes
Kidnapping
Drug offenses
Robbery
Burglary & Breaking and Entering
Larceny

Drug Violations
Drug violations range from felonies to misdemeanors, and they can carry jail time from years in prison to a slap on the wrist. They are costly and they are complicated and, if they are not handled correctly, they can affect you and your family for the rest of your lives. Steve Lacy will ensure that you are represented fairly and completely, and he will listen to your case and your situation and make sure that your interests are protected.

Misdemeanors
A Misdemeanor is a violation of the criminal law that can result in imprisonment or jail time for no more than two years. Misdemeanors convictions can also result in fines, community service, drug or alcohol treatment, or probation. Common misdemeanors include minor drug/paraphernalia possession of some controlled substances, assaults, certain traffic offenses, and threats. In many cases, an experienced attorney knows what misdemeanors can be directed into alternative dispositions that can reduce punishment, or even result in the complete dismissal of all charges. Often, misdemeanor charges are based by a magistrate based upon civilian complaints that did not involve any police investigation. These cases often turn solely on the credibility of the parties, and other witnesses, and un-experienced trial attorney, like Steve Lacy can be the difference, in these cases, by having exposing deceitful witnesses and impleading dishonest testimony. Having a lawyer represent your interests in a misdemeanor case ensures that your interests are best served, and that you will receive the best possible outcome.

Steve Lacy handles various types of criminal law cases, including but not limited to… hit and run, breaking and entering, concealed weapons, obstruction of justice, underage drinking, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault charges. A consultation with Steve Lacy on criminal charges is free. For questions about a consultation please feel free to give us a call today.
